What is Freemasonry?

About:

As one of the worlds largest and oldest fraternities Freemasonry can be found nearly the world over with lodges on every continent except for Antarctica. While the actual date and place of origin has been lost to history, as tends to happen with anything of sufficient age and size, and is up for debate; we do know what the roots of our organizations are.

History:

Freemasonry finds its roots in the Stonemasons of ancient times who were tradesmen in stone craft. They would form local groups to protect and pass on the trade secrets of their profession. As time went on, they began to let non-stonemasons join the groups, which was when they began to transition from Stonemasons to Freemasons.

Today:

Freemasonry today finds itself as a society that focuses on self-improvement, friendship, and brotherly love. While our ancient brethren focused on building their structures to be upright and regular, we focus on building ourselves to be upright and regular men.

Tomorrow:

Freemasonry is both steeped in tradition as well as focused on self-improvement, and thus looks to the future by remembering the lessons of the past and using them to carve out a better path for future generations and members.
